Roborovski hamster pet portraits

Roborovskis are the smallest pet hamster, about two inches long, and the fastest. They live in pairs or small groups. They came out of the Mongolian and Chinese deserts, and the coat still reads as sand.

The eyebrows are the giveaway

Two small white markings above the eyes — sometimes called eyebrows, sometimes spots — are the field-identification mark for Roborovskis. No other pet hamster has them. The portrait reads these from your photo and paints them precisely. Without them the species looks like a generic dwarf hamster; with them it reads unmistakably as a Robo.

Why the desert palette suits

Watercolor and Vineyard render Roborovskis well because both styles favor warm sandy tones in the underpainting — the same tones the species evolved to match. The contrast between the dark agouti back and the white belly carries through cleanly. Garden works for the natural register; Snow is the wrong direction unless you want deliberate contrast between subject and palette.
