How can we help you today?

Never ordered before? Three steps from photo to print.

The whole process takes under two minutes:

  1. Pick a portrait style — browse our catalog of fine-art styles, from Renaissance oil to royal court portraiture.
  2. Add who's in it — a clear, front-facing shot in good natural light. People, pets, any mix.
  3. Choose your product — you'll see an instant free watermarked preview. Approve it, then purchase to receive the full-resolution file, or order a Canvas or Wooden Framed Poster shipped to your door.
Portrait email not in your inbox? Track down your download in a few clicks.

Nine times out of ten it's hiding in spam — here's how to find it fast:

  • Check spam / junk first. Mail from Throne & Tail almost always ends up there on the first order. Search for "Throne & Tail" or "your portrait."
  • Verify the address you checked out with. It's easy to accidentally use a secondary email at checkout — double-check the confirmation screen.
  • Still nothing? Send us your order number or the email used at checkout and we'll resend it immediately.
Not happy with your portrait? Regenerate, swap your photo, or claim a refund.

Three ways to fix it:

  • Request changes (free). Hit the Request changes button on your order page and tell us what's off — colours, framing, the look on their face — and we'll regenerate at no cost.
  • Send us a new photo (free). Portrait quality depends heavily on the source photo. Email a clearer, better-lit image to support@throneandtail.com and we'll redo it at no cost.
  • Still not right? Email support@throneandtail.com within 14 days of delivery — if it's a defect, misprint, or fulfilment error, we'll send a replacement or refund (see our refund policy for full details).
Tracking your print shipment — from our studio to your door.

Your print ships with a live tracking link. Look for a shipping confirmation email containing your carrier tracking number, sent once your print leaves the studio. Click the link to see real-time delivery status.

Typical production & delivery window:

  • Studio production: 1–3 business days
  • Transit to your door: 3–6 business days
  • Total from order to delivery: around 5–10 business days

No shipping email yet? It may be in your spam folder. If production time has already passed, reach out and we'll investigate.

Your portrait, explained

What's in the portrait catalog?

Fine-art portrait styles, from Renaissance oil to royal court portraiture. A few favourites:

  • The Natural — a clean, unadorned close-up that lets the face speak for itself.
  • The Duke — aristocratic finery: brocade waistcoat, cravat, and velvet cloak inside an estate library.
  • The King — jewelled crown and crimson ermine robe set against a moody dramatic backdrop.
  • The General — a decorated naval uniform with epaulettes and campaign medals.

Browse the full catalog on the portraits page.

What does "three steps before press" mean?

Every portrait runs through three steps before it ships:

  1. The render. Your photo is painted into the catalog study you picked. The composition, palette, and brushwork are already designed; only the faces are yours.
  2. The cleanup pass. Most AI portrait shops skip this one. We run a second AI pass over the result to strip signatures, watermarks, and the small generative artifacts that survive the first render.
  3. The 6× upscale. The cleaned portrait is upscaled to print-grade resolution before it leaves the studio.

Most AI portrait shops ship the first draft. We don't.

Will they actually be recognisable in the final portrait?

Yes. Each portrait is built around your photos, so the features that matter carry through — face shape, eye colour, and the details that make them unmistakably them.

Each generation is unique — minor compositional details like background texture or accessory positioning may differ from preview to preview. That variance is part of what makes each piece one-of-a-kind.

What makes a good source photo?

Ideal conditions for the sharpest portrait:

  • Soft natural light — no harsh shadows falling across the face.
  • Eye-level angle — shoot at their height, not from above.
  • Face fills most of the frame — closer is better than further.
  • Clear, in-focus shot — avoid motion blur or low-resolution screenshots.

Digital download

What file format and resolution do I receive?

You receive a high-resolution JPEG at 5,376 × 7,104 pixels (3:4 portrait, ×6 upscale) — print-sharp up to 70 × 100 cm / 28 × 40 in, and ready for any print lab, photo book service, or framing shop.

How is the file delivered?

By email, within minutes of purchase. You can also re-download anytime from your Throne & Tail customer account.

What can I do with the file once I have it?

It's yours for personal use — print it, frame it, use it as wallpaper, gift it. Commercial use (resale, merchandise) isn't included in the standard licence; reach out if that's what you have in mind.

Physical prints

Which physical products are available?

Two premium formats, both produced on demand:

  • Canvas — cotton-poly blend stretched over FSC-certified pine bars, hanging kit included. Sizes 30 × 40 cm to 70 × 100 cm (12 × 16 in to 28 × 40 in).
  • Wooden Framed Poster — museum-grade matte paper behind shatterproof plexiglass, solid pine frame in four finishes. Sizes 30 × 40 cm to 60 × 90 cm (12 × 16 in to 24 × 36 in).
Where are prints produced and shipped from?

We currently ship to the US, Canada, and Australia. Every order is produced in a local studio in your country — US orders printed in the US, Canadian orders in Canada, Australian orders in Australia — so transit times are short and there are no customs fees.

How is print quality controlled?

Every studio in our network meets the same quality bar before they're allowed to fulfil our orders. We periodically place test orders and inspect colour accuracy, sharpness, and finish. If anything ever arrives below that bar, send us a photo — we'll reprint or refund immediately.

Shipping

Where do you ship?

We currently ship to the United States, Canada, and Australia. Each country has its own local studio, so transit times are short and there are no customs fees. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your address.

Will I pay customs duties or import fees?

No — every order is produced in the country it ships to (US, Canada, or Australia), so your print never crosses a customs border. You pay only the price shown at checkout, plus local shipping.

What if my package arrives damaged?

Send us a photo within 14 days of delivery and we'll reprint and reship at no cost.

Payment & privacy

How is my payment protected?

All transactions are handled by Shopify Payments — SSL encrypted, end-to-end. We never see or store raw card details.

What happens to my photos after the portrait is made?

Your photo is processed by our AI partner only to generate your portrait — not for training, not for resale. We don't keep the original on our servers once the preview is rendered.

What's your refund policy?

If your order arrives damaged, misprinted, or isn't what you ordered, email support@throneandtail.com within 14 days of delivery — we'll send a replacement or refund, no return shipment required in most cases. Because every print is made to order, we can't accept 'wrong size' or 'changed my mind' returns.
