Devon Rex cats look like nothing else. The portrait has one job — paint them as the strange beautiful elf-creatures they are rather than averaging them toward a generic cat.

The curl is the coat

The Devon coat is short and rippled with a soft wavy curl that lies close to the body. We read it from photos as texture rather than flat color. Light coats (cream, white, lilac) show the ripple most clearly; darker coats (black, blue, chocolate) hold the curl in the shadows.
